Additional Information: Building the Ultimate Lumion Workstation

If you’re serious about real-time architectural visualization, your hardware needs to keep up. Our Lumion Workstation is purpose-built to handle the high demands of 3D rendering and visualization in Lumion, equipped to support everything from lightweight residential designs to ultra-detailed cityscapes and landscape models.

Lumion is a real-time 3D rendering software used extensively by architects, designers, and visualization professionals. It transforms CAD and 3D models into stunning visual experiences—whether it’s still images, animations, or immersive panoramas. Unlike traditional offline renderers that rely heavily on CPU-based ray tracing, Lumion is optimized to behave more like a game engine, offloading most of its performance needs onto the GPU (graphics card). That means if you want smooth viewport navigation, fast render times, and the ability to preview photorealistic results in real time, your video card will be the most critical component.

CPU: What Processor is Best for Lumion?

Lumion’s rendering engine does not benefit from a high number of CPU cores. Instead, it thrives on processors with strong single-threaded performance. That’s why we recommend high-frequency CPUs like the Intel Core™ Ultra 7 265K, Core™ Ultra 9 285K, or AMD’s Ryzen™ 9 9900X. These CPUs offer fast response times in the viewport, quick loading of models, and snappy performance when working in Lumion alongside applications like Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, or ArchiCAD.

Because Lumion is often used alongside design software that may be multi-threaded (like simulation or modeling tools), this workstation is optimized to strike a balance between high-frequency performance and efficient multi-tasking capabilities.

GPU: The Most Important Component for Lumion

The graphics card is where Lumion truly comes alive. Whether you’re rendering photorealistic scenes or navigating through your model in real-time, the GPU carries nearly all the load. For most users, we recommend the NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 5070 Ti or RTX 5080, which offer excellent ray tracing performance and 16GB+ of VRAM—more than enough for most professional projects.

For ultra-complex scenes, or users working in 4K with massive terrain data or high-end assets like detailed trees and animated characters, the GeForce RTX™ 5090 32GB is an ideal choice. If you’re working with environments so large that even 32GB of VRAM isn’t sufficient, the NVIDIA RTX™ 6000 Blackwell 96GB offers workstation-grade capabilities with exceptional memory capacity.

Note: Lumion only utilizes a single GPU, so adding a second card won’t improve performance.

RAM: How Much System Memory Does Lumion Need?

Lumion can use a fair amount of system memory, or RAM, when dealing with large and complex 3D models. Even though the rendering is done through the video card, the model itself has to be loaded into main memory first. On the high end, 64GB should usually be plenty – while smaller projects are likely to be fine with 32GB. If you tend to run a lot of other programs at the same time, consider doubling up on those numbers.

Storage: SSDs Make a Big Difference

A fast SSD will drastically reduce load times for your projects, textures, and the Lumion application itself. For most workflows, we recommend:

  • Primary Drive: 1TB+ NVMe SSD for OS, Lumion, and your other core applications
  • Secondary Drive: Optional NVMe or SATA SSD dedicated to your project files and assets

This structure keeps your software responsive and your project files quick to load and save. For long-term storage and backup, you can add a traditional HDD or use network-attached storage (NAS) with redundancy features like RAID 1 or 5.

Optimize Your Entire Workflow – Not Just Lumion

While Lumion dominates the GPU, your workstation should be ready to support your full workflow—from modeling in Revit, Rhino, or SketchUp to rendering and post-production. Our Lumion Workstations are built with premium cooling, high-wattage gold-rated power supplies, and ample room for future expansion.

Final Thoughts: Achieving the best Lumion performance means prioritizing a high-end GPU, a fast CPU with strong single-core performance, and enough RAM and SSD space to keep your workflow moving. Whether you’re working on a single residential model or a complex multi-building campus, our Lumion Workstations are tuned to meet the unique needs of modern architectural rendering professionals.
