Whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast using 3D software rendering packages from Autodesk like Maya, or AutoCAD – you want your workstation to function at the highest level possible to get your work done. Pricing the parts and components for your workstation can be time consuming and cumbersome while you’re trying to get your work done, VRLA Tech wants to help by saving you the time it takes to research, so that you can get right to work so we’ve compiled an array of workstations to fit your 3D software rendering needs.
SOFTWARE SPECIFICATIONS
No matter what 3D rendering software you’re using all workstations have critical hardware components that can make your creative process fluid and dynamic without the hang ups of a slow workstation. Among the most important components are the following: your central processing unit, otherwise known as a CPU, your graphics processing unit, otherwise known as a GPU, your system’s RAM, and your workstation’s hard drive. Below you will find how each hardware component impacts your software.
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU)
Some of the most important features for a strong CPU when working with a 3D rendering software are its clock speed and the number of cores it has for rendering. When working with AutoCAD, or Maya you will want a multicore processor that has a clock speed of at least 2.0 GHz. The higher the clock speed your CPU has the quicker your programs will function. A dual CPU workstation will render much more effectively.
GRAPHICS PROCESSING UNIT (GPU)
Whenever using a software package that comes from Autodesk (Maya, AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) we recommend that you use NVIDIA Quadro GPU’s. Quadro cards are certified by Autodesk and allow for better sustainability in your hardware’s lifecycle. In addition, Quadro cards come with CUDA cores which help your GPU render 3D animations quicker than your CPU can. It’s important to note, that at a minimum your graphics card needs to be able to have an output of 30 frames per second (FPS) to work with 3D rendering software and 60 FPS is recommended.
RAM
RAM shouldn’t be an issue for running most 3D rendering software. It’s recommended that you have at least 16GB. Additional RAM can be added per specific user requirements based on what programs are being run.
STORAGE
While most 3D rendering software programs only require a small amount of space for a download (up to 10 GB), it is still recommended that your system has excess storage to hold your other programs as well as your operating system. Having a primary SAS hard drive will help with the speed at which your workstation operates while a secondary SATA hard drive is a cost effective option for storing your data.
OUR PACKAGES
All of our packages come with a Dell T7910 Workstation as the base unit, but can be swapped out for a HP Z840 Workstation at a greater cost if you prefer otherwise. HP Z840 options can be found here. All packages will come included with Windows 10 Professional, unless otherwise requested. We also include a 5 year warranty on our products so we can work with you along the way for any of your personal hardware needs. If you have something custom in mind feel free to contact us at (213) 810-3013 or by email at sales@vrlatech.com.
THE BASE PACKAGE
This package is best for those who are just using 3D designs and won’t have a lot of rendering needs. Included in this package is:
- CPU: 1 Intel Xeon 8 Core E5-2620v3 2.40 GHz 20MB Intel SmartCache 85W TDP
- GPU: 1 NVIDIA Quadro K1200 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
- RAM: 16 gigabytes of DDR4 memory (2 x 8GB DIMMS)
- Storage: 512 gigabytes of storage, SATA 2.5’ SSD
With a single CPU your workstation will work fine designing and creating 3D projects. However, without dual CPU’s rendering will be slower in your system. Storage will be lower on this workstation so it’s recommended that you also have off-site storage in another server or hard-drive.
THE BALANCED PACKAGE
If you’re looking for a package that is affordable and can handle an intense work environment this workstation can get the job done. It comes with:
- CPU: 2 Intel Xeon 8 Core E5-2620v3 2.40 GHz 20MB Intel SmartCache 85W TDP
- GPU: NVIDIA Quadro M4000 8GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
- RAM: 32 gigabytes of DDR4 memory (4 x 8GB DIMMS)
- Storage: 1 terabyte of storage SAS HDD and 1 terabyte of storage SATA 3.5 HDD
With two CPU’s this unit will have the ability to render your design choices much quicker. Additionally, the Quadro M4000 graphics card will give you 60 frames per second so your video work will always show up smoothly.
THE PERFORMANCE PACKAGE
With the performance package your creative process will not be interrupted from long render times or a slow workstation startup. This package ensures that you can render and run your designs as quickly as possible. It comes included with:
- CPU: 2 Intel Xeon 10 Core E5-2620v4 2.20 GHz 25MB Intel SmartCache 85W TDP
- GPU: 2 NVIDIA Quadro M4000 8GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
- RAM: 32 gigabytes of DDR4 memory (4 x 8GB DIMMS)
- Storage: 1 terabyte SAS HDD and 1 2 terabytes SATA 3.5″ HDD
Using two 10 core processors your workstation’s speed won’t be an issue. In addition to the processors, your workstation will have two Quadro 4000 GPU’s giving it the ability to render your images while you do additional design work. With your two hard drives you’ll have speed and enough space to store your larger works.
